6 Free Poker Tournament Tips Mid Stack Late in tourney tactics

This is an article on tactics to use mid-stack, late in an online free poker tournament.

1. I have found after playing several live and online free poker tournaments, that too many players who still have at least 3 more blinds covered, go all-in too early, and mess up their chances of reaching a final table, or win their way into the money.

2. Patience is one of the most important parts of any successful poker player’s game. If you play online free poker it’s tempting to play loose and aggressive all the time but this won’t make you better long term.

This is OK if you’re just playing for a bit of fun no problem. But if you have ambitions to make some real money playing online poker then how you learn and practice in free poker games is critical to your long term success.

3. Fact: Seeing an ace does not automatically advance you through a poker tournament (maybe the cowboy TV we watched as kids ingrained this myth!). You must remember that even pocket two's, against ace-anything, the 2's are still favoured.

You will find if you wait it out, your chances of advancing will increase bigtime.

This is a good example of the strategy + patience approach taken by players for whom poker is no longer about luck.

4. One of the major problems with the all-in type of play is that larger stack players, with not much risk, and good odds on their bet, will play lesser hands, such as suited connectors, small pocket pairs, etc. And the more players in the pot, the less your odds become, even if you’re holding a killer hand.

5. Now I’m not saying a minimum raise may not be in order, any player you can get to re-think his play, and maybe keep a player or 2 from entering a hand becomes better for you.

6. I am saying though that you should re-think the all-in approach, and play with more patience, let other players help you, let them make mistakes while you’re being patient.

Free Poker Tips Summary
Poker success long term is a matter of playing averages and probabilities. Do things that result in your winning average being larger and more frequent that your losing average size and frequency. Get that nailed down and apply with a large dollop of patience and you’ll be made.

You'll find in the long haul, more chips, and more importantly more money will find its way into your bankroll.

Good luck on the tables, and more importantly, have fun whether you’re playing starting out free poker online or the WSOP final table!
